General information, not advice
Everything on this site is general information about accessory dwelling units. It isn’t legal, tax, financial, engineering or design advice, and it doesn’t create a professional relationship. Your municipality decides what can be built on your property, and a qualified professional should review decisions about money, contracts and construction.
Optional paid research services
Our research services include a saved automated report and separately scoped human research by Justin Honeck. The research service terms explain each offer, payment, delivery, corrections and refund requests. A human-service request does not authorize a charge. Justin confirms the written scope and delivery date before you decide whether to pay.
The site’s general information, guides and free tools remain available without buying a service. A report or research brief does not provide municipal approval or replace the legal and technical decisions of the appropriate authorities and professionals.
Rules change
We research laws and local codes from official sources and show the date we last checked each one. Laws and codes change, and our summaries can be incomplete or out of date. Confirm the current rules with your town, village, city or county before relying on them. The property checker screens; it does not approve anything.
Concept homes and estimates
Concept homes are illustrations for discussion, not completed builds, approved plans or construction drawings. Sizes are approximate. Cost figures are published figures from cited sources or clearly labelled calculations based on those figures. They are general comparisons, not quotes for your property.
Photos
Project photos come from an existing homes and woodwork archive and are labelled as such. They do not depict completed ADUs. Concept images are illustrations from our own models.
